*Team Members: Yukiko Ishikawa, Justin Bird, Tyler Dixon, Sergio Urrunaga, Erdem Günsür
MIT SLOAN SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT
with an international team of professionals from different disciplines
we have identified various problems, discovered opportunities and came up with creative solutions towards bike theft

THE PROBLEM
bicycles are amongst the most frequently stolen items with one of the lowest recovery rates.
THE OPPORTUNITY
although there are numerous precautions for avoiding bike theft, there are no effective solutions for what happens afterwards.

FIELDWORK
we have conducted numerous interviews with people who have been robbed in the past, along with professionals i.e. policemen and lawyers.

And made a thorough research on the behaviours and actions of people who are exposed to burglary.

analysis of the collected data has suggested that the internet (e-commerce sites & social media) is the first place that people search for their stolen item (including the police).

Reviving a Dying Craft in India
ON-SITE FIELDWORK & CO-CREATION
Needs assessment & observation regarding the lives and jobs of Indian craftsmen was made in Gujarat, India.
Main objective of the project was to come up with creative solutions for improving the lives of local craftspeople.

A DYING CRAFT
Talented metal craftspeople were observed to be struggling because of decreasing demand for hand crafted metal vessels.

Commissions from local patrons were observed to be the primary source of income for the craftspeople - which were mainly religious statues for local temples.

CO-CREATION & IDEATION
Ideation and co-creation sessions were conducted with the craftspeople in order to uncover opportunities in line with their capabilities.

RESULT
Re-interpretation of the craft was made for creating modular architectural elements which can easily be crafted and assembled by the craftspeople.
